A hypnotic state is when someone is very relaxed and receptive to suggestions and ideas that are intended to help them. It is a state of wakefulness where the focus of attention is internal rather than external. They have a quiet mind but are aware of what’s going on around them. The hypnotic state is perhaps similar to everyday experiences such as where we might drive a distance and arrive at our destination and not remember a large part of the journey or we become absorbed in a daydream and what is going on around us sinks into the background. This hypnotic state gives you the ability to use your imagination in a powerful way to affect changes in yourself without your critical alert mind analysing and getting in the way. In a hypnotic state a person can reject any suggestions they don’t like and can come out of the state any time they choose. It is also notable that it is possible to go into a hypnotic state and not be relaxed.
Frequently Asked Questions
What Is Hypnosis?
Can Anyone Be Hypnotised?
Yes anyone can be hypnotised. Some people go straight into a deep hypnotic state and others take a little longer. Hypnosis is a skill and the more you do it the better you get. If you approach hypnosis with an open mind and follow the guidance of the hypnotist you find it to be a very rewarding experience.
What Does Hypnosis Feel Like?
When a person is hypnotised they feel very relaxed. There is a wonderful feeling of calmness as the focus of one’s awareness goes inward. Occasionally clients say that hypnosis did not feel like they thought it would and that it was a very good experience.
Can I Get Stuck In Hypnosis?
It is not possible to get stuck in hypnosis. At any point during the session a person can bring themselves out of the hypnotic state and function normally.
How Many Sessions Will I Need?
The amount of sessions a person needs will vary depending on the issue and the person. Everyone has their own personality, set of emotions and strengths. If we look at stopping smoking as an example, for some people this is an occasional habit they have picked up and for others it has been deeply imbedded in their lives over many years. In these two cases each person would need a different approach which would require their own set of sessions.
Do You Guarantee Success?
I cannot guarantee success as hypnotherapy is not 100% effective for every single person. People are complicated and process the techniques we use in their own unique way. I can guarantee that I will work hard for you and engage in the therapy to the best of my ability.
Is The Hypnotherapy Confidential?
Yes the hypnotherapy is completely confidential.
Can You Take Control Of Me?
A hypnotherapist cannot take control of a person. When hypnotised you will feel totally in control and able to bring yourself out of hypnosis at any time you wish. When a person takes part in stage hypnosis and is seen running around the stage doing crazy things it is because they want to. A stage hypnotist will use techniques to find the most suggestible, extrovert members of the audience to take part.
Are You Insured?
I have full public liability insurance.
Can You Travel To Me?
I am able to travel to your location. There is an extra charge for time and fuel. If the location is within ten miles of Bournemouth the charge is £10. If the distance is more than ten miles the charge will be based on time and distance to location.
